How To Order A Whole Or Half Beef
Ordering from MidAmerican Beef is simple. Here’s how it works:
Learn About Hanging Weight and Whole vs Half Beef
Decide whether you’d like to order a Whole Beef or Half Beef, depending on your household size, freezer space, and cooking habits. Not sure which to choose? Check out our guide to help you decide: Whole vs. Half Beef: Which Bulk Option is Right for You?
Hanging weight is the weight of the carcass after initial slaughter and processing but before it’s trimmed, cut, and packaged. For example, a typical whole beef has a hanging weight of about 1,000 lbs.
Before your beef is cut into individual cuts, It is dry-aged. After dry aging, it is then fully cut, trimmed, and processed to your specific requests. Most of the time, after all cuts are made, you will take home 60% of that entire hanging weight
For an average 1000 lb hanging weight, that’s about 600 lbs of beef in your freezer, including a well-rounded selection of: steaks, roasts, ground beef, and optional soup bones or organ meats.
